Flames clobber Bucs, 19-0

MurasakiBrighton Buccaneers stumbled to a big early season defeat at bumpy Connare Field last weekend, as they look to adjust to a turbulent off-season and a more competitive National League South.
The Buccaneers were burned by the Richmond Flames 19-0 in a game delayed by over an hour. A scheduling clash meant that the second game in the proposed doubleheader will have to be played at a later date.
Bucs manager Craig Savage said: “It wasn’t good. We got a bit of a slap.”

Murasaki wins club MVP award for 2005

MurasakiEighteen-year-old outfielder Koh Murasaki was awarded the Brighton Buccaneers Baseball Club’s Senior MVP award at the club’s Annual General Meeting in Hove on 13 November.
In the ceremony, which was held at the Imperial Hotel in Hove, the club also honoured Ryan Soan as the Junior MVP.
The club’s Most Improved Player awards went to senior Alistair Clemett and junoir Callum Ellis. The Rookie of the Year award, which recognises the standout first-year member of the club, went to senior Robert Poffel and junior Jake Tanzer.
The Richard Gerrard Award, which the club annually awards to the junior member showing the best promise as a player, went to Tom Scotcher. The Dave Panto Players’ Award, which recognises outstanding contributions to the club’s development, was awarded to Christina Bator and John Bator for their tireless work running the club’s Bronco team.

Walk-off home run helps Pirates sink Bucs

SavageBrighton Buccaneers lost to Croydon Pirate Jeff McDonald’s walk-off home run in the National Final at Roundshaw Field in Croydon last weekend. Brighton had overcame London Warriors 6-2 in a tense semi-final before losing to Croydon 11-4 and 10-9 in the best-of-three final. It is the second consecutive year the Pirates have come from nowhere to win the title. Buccaneers manager Craig Savage was philosophical: “Five years out of the last six we’ve been in the final. It’s a fantastic record.”
